Hello Everyone,
I'm wondering about what the market rate might be for collection agency services. Might anyone be willing to share the rate they pay their agency to better understand the market?
Specifically for Nevada folks, are others as concerned as I am about the impact of SB248, which seems poised to wallop the medical debt collection industry in the state? They are mandating that certified mail be sent to patients at a cost of $5 per account (!!!), and that notice must go out for 60 days from the agency before anything else happens. That notice only informs the patient that they have a debt, and it's not even a demand for payment. In effect, they are delaying the ability of the collection agency to send notice to collect a debt, an they are making it incredibly expensive to do so. On top of that, they are lengthening the amount of time until medical debt can hit a patient's credit from 180 days to 365 days. They will wipe out all PAID medical debt reporting to the agencies, so it will no longer appear on any record if the debt has been paid. And they are looking to establish a minimum of $500 as a defined minimum threshold under which medical debt will not be reported, which is certainly not great for radiology. My agency has sued the state and is seeking an injunction. Are others in NV involved in this? If it is much less likely that someone will be impacted by not paying their bills, they it could get a lot more difficult to get paid.
