Hi George,
Your question isn't an easy one to answer. Reports per hour is dependent on several factors including but not limited to:
- What type of software are you using if any?
- Are the CPT and/or ICD-10 codes provided?
- Are your coders only responsible for applying CPT? Only the ICD-10? Or both?
- Do they answer MIPS questions?
- Are interventional reports included in the coding queue?
- Is there a mix of modalities?
- How complete are the reports?
- How experienced are your coders?
- What coding tools do they have available to them?
In general most people consider 100 reports a good number, but it is dependent on the above factors.
I would be happy to discuss further if you would like to reach out to me via email.

Subject: Coding Productivity
Hello RBMA peers,
I'm looking for a way to measure the productivity of our coders. We bill internally and our volumes have grown over the last few years and our coding delays have impacted our ability to bill in a timely manner. I'm trying figure out when I need to bring in another resource for the team if they are all being as productive as they can/should be. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
George
