How does your group handle buy-in and buy-out of the practice? Historically, we have used a complex formula that takes into account what the assets are as well as an AR valuation.  The buy-in and buy-out calculation are identical. That has worked well for decades but the newer generation of radiologists are asking for a more simple and lower cost method to buy in.  They also don't like the cost of buying someone out.
Are there any general methods that I should consider?

    Sharon,
We simplified ours several years ago.  We had a complicated formula and, depending on the time of year, the value would vary a great deal.  Our shareholders voted to make the buy in and buy out a flat amount and they have not voted to change it since.  We do not have imaging centers so the buy in is rather low.  We also do not have the physicians buy into a/r and they don't get a buyout of a/r either.

We used to have a non-qualified deferred compensation plan which served in come capacity as an additional buyout, but we froze that several years ago because we feared it would become unsustainable.
