  • 1.  PA compensation and benefits

We have 3 PAs in our practice and 2 of them are experienced (5-15 years) and 1 is new fresh out of training. The two more experienced PAs don't take call and only work weekdays (typical days are 8am-5pm with an occasional late day and sometimes early departures). Both experienced PAs are more than paying for themselves with the volume of procedures and consults being performed. My question is what is the typical range for experienced PAs with Interventional Radiology procedural skills? I'm interested in knowing both the typical range and also the higher end range for those whose skill sets are expansive and more than just the bread and butter procedures (para, thora, lumbar puncture, etc.). I'd also like to gather information on what typical benefits are provided like how many weeks of vacation, and what other types of benefits are provided. We want to make sure we're in the range with our current team members. If anyone is willing to share their personal feedback from their practice with me, please feel free to either call me (727.744.4176) or email me at sf@radiologyclearwater.com.

    Thanks,
    Scott Fortson

Hi  Scott -  We have 2 experienced PA's 2 and 1 PA < 1 yr interventional radiology experience.   I try to benchmark to the Surgery PAs with the MGMA compensation survey.   We provide vac, sick, cme allowance (days and course), their licensure and SIR membership.   This is in addition to the usual benefits for medical, disability, malpractice (no tail obligation), etc.   Training up a new PA is painful and long in interventional radiology.   Our practice has been very cautious/adverse to moving to more advanced services...port removal, etc.   Lots of ACR listserv discussion about scope creep, and the PAs just don't have the same training and experience that an MD providers.
Ours don't do call work (yet), but that is provided for in their employment agreement re number of weekends, and separate compensation plan.   This has been a source of conversation for at least 10 years and we've never moved to implement.
