You might see if you can speak to somebody that can coordinate the billing and the IT side of things at your hospital – our main facility identifies their  Part A Medicare with one payer number, and Part B Medicare with a different payer number, which allows us to ignore one AND only get the Part B info if that particular payer is on the patients account.

Our main facility does this well, our previous smaller facility we dealt with certainly NOT as good – The only other immediate automated solution that comes to mind would be one of the vendors that does eligibility checks that could run the Part A numbers to see if they do, in fact, have Part B coverage before you send out any bills – if that is an option on the billing company side, then perhaps they could also automate changing to the Part B payer if it comes back as having coverage, or dropping the Part A and just leaving the alternate payer on that charge/visit.
