  • 1.  Credit Card Refund Compliance Question

    I am inquiring ​​on if a patient paid at TOS or paying on an account by credit card and it causes a credit on the patients account after it is adjudicated by the insurance.  Do we have to refund the patient on the same merchant ID by Credit Card or can we issue a check from our refund account?  Right now it is my understand to be compliant we must issue the refund the same way they paid.  Any clarification and input would be great, thanks!

    Diane. You are correct.. The credit should be issued to the card and not as a check... If you issue a check you become party to a cash advance for the patient and the rules change dramatically for them and you... You are best served to issue the credit to the card.... Hope that helps...
