  • 1.  IR CALL PAY AND SCHEDULERS

    Posted 02-16-2018 11:36

I have a couple of questions on IR. Does anyone employee the schedulers, and or nurses for the hospital IR department? We have an IR department of 5 physicians, we employee 2 schedulers an RN, and a NP.  Our NP does round on patients, and does some procedures.

On call pay you receive from the hospital, do you keep the money for the entire group, or does this money go to the IR physicians only?

    Thank you,

    Vicki

The short answer is that have hired one person who assists with scheduling for 9 IR docs and 3 hospitals, but there are schedulers at each hospital as well hired by the hospitals.  Any IR stipend is shared with the group, but the IR docs are do imaging reads at our practice.  Happy to have more indepth discussion off line.

We employ 2 IR schedulers and an NP. The hospital also employs schedulers, and our schedulers coordinate with them. Outside referrals come directly to our IR schedulers, who make sure all the necessary paperwork is there including pre-auth, imaging if necessary, labs if necessary, copy of recent H&P, etc. Once all paperwork is in order, our schedules send the packet to the hospital who calls the patient to schedule the procedure. We follow-up with the referring offices with copies of reports, consult notes, and schedule any additional procedures ordered by our Interventional Radiologists for the patients they are following.

    Vicki,

We used to have a NP that did some IR procedures.  We do not hire any schedulers or nurses, the hospital provides that staff.

The IR call pay used to be shared among the  whole group and the IR call was equalized with the regular diagnostic call.  Subsequently, our group sub-specialized into three sections (IR, neuro and Body - MSK - NM).  Now, the IR section keeps the entire IR call stipend.
