We are looking into a T3 MRI made by GE for the use of Prostate exams specifically. I am doing research to find out the insurance reimbursement rates as well as pros and cons for Prostate exams. I would love to speak with another facility or manager who has experience with the billing aspects. If not, can anyone point us in the best direction for these resources? Thanks in advance!

    Briana,

One of our new radiologists has recently started up an MRI prostate program that has been well received by the urologists and referring physicians.  Here is some more information from our hospital's imaging center manager.

    *********************

We do the majority of our patients on the 3T system however we have a new GE Wide Bore 1.5 and we have trialed the MAGIC software and have found the images on the Wide Bore 1.5 with Magic produces great /comparable  images so we will be doing some patients on the 1.5 T as well.

We are getting reimbursed for the MRI of the Pelvis but the MRI 3D Rendering charge is typically bundled and we are not getting additional revenue for that charge. A very few payers do pay on the 3D Rendering charge.

The reimbursements have been tracked by our Analytics Team so if this individual wants to contact me I could get an update from them and share.

    **********************

Please contact me via email or at 417-894-0878 if you have any questions or if you want to talk to the imaging center's manager. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Hi, Jay.  I'm wondering if you're doing screening Prostate MRIs without contrast?  A couple of my physicians here are interested in working with the hospital on providing these on a cash basis.

I'd be interested in what your experience in these are.

    Thanks.

    Bob,

We started doing MRI prostate exams about 2 years ago.  We do not perform any screening MRI prostate exams, rather just the diagnostic exams.

Please contact me via email or at 417-894-0878 if you have any questions. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

    Hello Heather,

Here at Desert Medical Imaging located in Indian Wells, California we launched our Prostate Program nearly 10 years ago and have been using a 1.5T with much success. Additionally, many of our prostate patients have hip arthroplasty and 1.5T provides the image clarity necessary for our successful program.  We have one of the largest databases of prostate MRI in the country.  I'd like to recommend you review the ACR PI-RADS guidelines in relation to the use of a 1.5T.   You may also find our online CME course on this subject of interest as you start up your prostate program.

Best to you and your new program.
