We are under JH – Novitas Solutions.

We have a client that just installed a new MRI but to be accredited by the ACR they have to scan patients.

The MRI rep told the client that Medicare allows a grace period while the facility gets the accreditation.

Our MRI claims are denied as Provider not certified for this service and when we call Medicare the customer service reps says the provider is not enrolled or linked to the group and says it is an enrollment issue.

Can anyone provide some additional information or who to contact?

    Good morning Rick,

It is my understanding that the grace period is only allowed for group's that already have an imaging facility enrolled with Medicare.  If you are enrolling a completely new facility this may not apply. I've attached a Medicare Provisional Policy that should address your questions.

    I hope this helps.

We are already enrolled with Medicare and we are already accredited with the ACR for CT (since 2012). We just installed our MRI this spring when I called Medicare and read that to them I was told that article doesn't exist.

I told her I could send it to her but she refused to provide a way for me to send it to her.

Then you should be able to get the provisional certification.  If asking for a supervisor doesn't fix the situation you might try calling the CMS office for your region.   The CMS office has oversight of the MAC in your area and they can often get things done when you hit roadblocks.  This is their email address:  ROATLORA@cms.hhs.gov
