    Hello Jeffrey,
Our practice uses Tableau for Marketing and Business Analytics. It connects with our internal databases and RIS well, and is very robust in its ability to gather and display data. We compared it to several other applications before making the purchase, and it was the clear winner. I would caution you though, it is not an intuitive package to use. We required 2 days of on-site group training, and I still feel like a novice.

We have also used Tableau for quite a few years.  I like it because you can keep things simple, or get really advanced.  You can connect it to an Excel file, a text file, SQL database, Oracle database, Amazon Redshift, MySQL, etc.  It took some advanced configuration, but we were able to use Tableau to show true TATs for our clinic.  We were able to create a custom calculated field that accounted for business hours only.  So if we had an x-ray done at 6:00 P.M. on a Friday, and it was read first thing on Monday morning, the TAT would show minutes instead of days.

I was able to get Tableau to create the calculated field for us by telling them we needed to see if the program had this capability before we purchased.  So if you have a tough measure that you want to report on, have them demo it for you.

    Thanks,

    Jeffrey,

If you are looking to gain insights regarding where your referrals come from, utilization of facilities and anything from a biz dev perspective, I recommend looking at IDS Abbasid CRM. I used it at SDMI and it allowed us to see and make sense of incredible amounts of data, and then generate year-over-year double digit growth.

Added bonus, IDS is an RBMA sponsor. Www.idssite.com

We have had a large focus on RVU's for tracking physician productivity.  We have a dashboard that we can slice and dice based on interpretation date, physician, shift worked and expected benchmarks.  We are also working on a fee schedule comparison to track payments that are over and under the expected amounts (we have limitations where we are unable to do this through our billing software).  We also have multiple executive level reports to give us a high level snapshot of our collections, A/R, denials received on a daily basis.  Ultimately, he has been able to create anything we have requested, very customizable.

Greatly appreciate the kind words all.  I will also be presenting at RBMA Paradigm this April with Linda Wilgus (Northwest Radiology) and Eric Weber (Asheville Radiology) if anyone wants to see practical application of using business analytics software in radiology to help shape your practice.
