  • 1.  Modified Barium swallows

    We are investigating performing Modified Barium swallows, in coordination w/a speech pathologist.  All of the three codes below seem to apply, but can we bill for all 3 with the expectation that we will be reimbursed for all 3?

    Group 1 Codes:

    70370    Throat x-ray & fluoroscopy

    70371    Speech evaluation complex

    74230    Cine/vid x-ray throat/esoph

    2 sUN REVIEW Per Medicaid National Correct Coding Initiative edits, Procedure Code 74230[SWALLOWING FUNCJ W/CINERADIOGRAPY/VIDRADIOG] has a CCI conflict with procedure code 70371[CPLX DYNAMIC PHARYNGEAL&SP EVAL C/V REC]. Per Medicaid CCI guidelines, a modifier is NOT allowed to override the CCI conflict.

    ​Basically you can either bill the 70370  or 70371 with the 74230 together but you cannot bill all three at once 70370 and 70371 conflict with each other
