  • 1.  Radiologist compensation for administrative duties

    Posted 07-25-2018 12:45

How does your group compensate for:

Medical Director, Department chair, system board, chief of staff, RSO,  and other hospital leadership positions

Internal committees, scheduling, division chair, etc.

Outside leadership such as local societies, speaking engagements, marketing, etc.

    How is the compensation determined?

I am interested in method rather than a dollar amount such as: not compensated, paid at a day rate, other credit, pass through, shared equally, etc.

    Thanks!

Our hospital medical directors and internal committee chairs currently receive a flat dollar amount per month, roughly...and very unscientifically... based on the time commitment of the role.

We do pay a fixed amount to committee members for meeting attendance, and they also get paid if they are scheduled to work when there is a meeting.  We also pay for attendance at the local radiological society meetings.

--President of the practice receives an annual stipend as well as 9 admin day a quarter.
--Exec committee members get additional scheduling request privilege as well as paid day off a quarter and meeting time credit of .333/meeting.
--QA chair gets 1 paid day off a quarter.
--Medical directors get coverage for meeting attendance where we solicit volunteers and pay to cover their work obligation for the various meetings.
--When they serve as Chief of Staff at health systems, the compensation from the health system comes to the practice, and the COS submits work time logs to practice for compensation at agreed hourly rate.
--Annual bonus to all Shareholders based on attending practice meetings
--No comp for chairs of committees or site medical directors .  We try to achieve engagement of all practice members in admin duties, committee work, etc.

We do not pay for anything.  We do this to keep things as fair as possible.

RBMA did a Hot Topics poll on this subject in January of this year.  It doesn't have all the information you're looking for, but does look at additional pay, bonus, administrative or vacation time off, other compensation, no additional compensation for the CEO/president, board members, committee chairs, hospital medical directors,  and all other radiologist leaders.  The report is attached.

    I hope this is helpful.
