  • 1.  TJC and annual fluoro training

    I understand there is a new Joint Commission requirement that all providers using fluoroscopy have documented annual training.   The radiologists are somewhat stunned that this applies to them given their training and expertise, but we are being told no exceptions as TJC doesn't specifically exclude radiologists.     What strategy are your practices or health systems using to comply with this documented annual training requirement?

The organization verifies and documents that individuals (including physicians, nonphysicians, and ancillary personnel) who use fluoroscopic equipment participate in ongoing education that includes annual training on the following: - Radiation dose optimization techniques and tools for pediatric and adult patients addressed in the Image Gently® campaign - Safe procedures for operation of the types of fluoroscopy equipment they will use Note 1: Information on the Image Gently initiative can be found online at http://www.imagegently.org. Note 2: This element of performance does not apply to fluoroscopy equipment used for therapeutic radiation treatment planning or delivery.

    Keith - Yes that's it.   Note annual requirement and no exception for radiologists.    Have you addressed in your practice yet?
