    ​I am requesting clarification that the FY modifier only applies to the hospital part of the billing not the professional component on beneficiary claims to Medicare.

    Along that line, for global billing should we split out the TC and PC or will Medicare just take the reduction on the TC when processing?

    ​My information is the payment adjustment is made to the TC regardless of whether it is billed globally or billed separately.

    Yes, I was wondering the same thing.  Although I think it might be only the straight Medicare.  I did reach out to CMS in Boston and still haven't heard back.

                    Here's is the information we received back from our NGS, not from the CMS in Boston.  I still haven't heard back from them..  We also asked for a listing of codes, due to Connecticare is apply this to mammo's as well, plus all their commercial plans too.  It was just in their newsletter.

     

    We can only comment on the Medicare guidelines not the other plans mentioned.

     

    CMS has not and will not be defining a list of radiology codes that the reduction would apply to. The FY modifier would be used on claims that describe X-ray services taken using computed radiology.

     

    CMS further comments in the final rule: CMS believes that the professionals who furnish and bill for these services are in the best position to determine whether a particular imaging service is appropriately described as X-rays taken using computed radiography.

    We have just discovered that the secondary insurances that Medicare automatically passes to is denying our claims with the FY modifier. We have to rebill them manually without the modifier.
