    To All:

What are groups doing these days when hiring a new rad?  Are you paying for their prior acts coverage?  Do you also pay for Tail coverage if they leave?

    TIA

We do not pick up prior acts.  We only pay tail coverage if they have been with the company more than 15 years.  If they are retiring, we get a free tail from our malpractice company.  If they choose to leave prior to the 15 years, then they have to pay their own tail.

Ours is the same with one exception:  if we terminate them, we pay for the tail coverage.

There is a Radiology Hot Topics poll on the subject of tail coverage from May/June of this year (see attached). For partners, about one-quarter don't pay at all; more than one-half pay on retirement, alone or in combination with other circumstances; and about one-third pay on termination without cause, disability, and after a number of years of service. The report includes an extensive written analysis. Please note there's an error on the incremental vesting schedule note - the 13 percent in the chart is the right number. I will correct that and have the report re-posted.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
