Hi all.  I'm curious to know if your practices have paid Medical Director (or something similar) agreements with your hospitals. I realize we can't disclose rates but if you do have agreements for paid administrative time, it would be helpful to know whether these agreements reimburse you for some of the admin time performed or all of it, and if the rate fully covers your costs or if it partially reimburses the practice.

We serve 8 health systems and we have paid administrative agreements with 3/4 of them.  The hours allowed in the agreements cover some, but not all, of the time spent.  The rates do not cover our full expense.  Titles vary (Medical Director, Clinical Advisor, Service Chief, etc...).

    Thanks for your reply.

We have 4 medical directors and the hospital pays an hourly rate up to a max per month and a max per year.
The directors must log on a time sheet by some required categories. The hospital pays quarterly.

We have several medical director agreements with very modest stipends for the time spent by the Radiologist.  I do not believe that the group believes that the payments are intended to fully pay for the costs of the commitments that these programs require, but are grateful to receive any compensation for that work.  Most of the committee meetings are during working hours, with some notable exceptions.  When there are evening meetings that require the radiologist to work over and above the norm, the group generally compensates those doctor with some time off.  Any stipends are considered compensation to the group and not the specific physician.  The value of these commitments is that it gives the practice some positive exposure, allows the physician a seat at the table, and helps to promote the group as participants in their success.

We have two medical director agreements. Each is 300 hours per year.  The  hourly rate is a standard amount paid to all physicians.  A spreadsheet is used to indicate the item, physician, date, and amount.  It does not cover our costs.  However, it helps to get some compensation for QA, Tumor Board, meetings, and other activities.
