    Dear Forum:

My group is working with a new hospital to revamp their credentialing form as we are bringing new procedures (IR Services) to market which the institution has not provided these services in the past. We are trying to set minimum study volumes performed annually or in training to be eligible for physicians to be credentialed at the facility. We would like to set the bar high enough so not everyone on staff can apply but low enough that we do not eliminate radiologists from being able to perform these procedures.

Have others dealt with this and what level have been used successfully in Mammo procedures, IR Procedures, Biopsies, Thora's, Para's, etc.?

Please feel free to call me directly if it would be an easier discussion or if you already have a form that can be shared, please email me directly.

    Thanks!

    Keith,

Good luck.  We set minimum volume standards years ago for some IR procedures.  A vascular surgeon wanted to do certain IR procedures but could not meet the minimum numbers established by our group and agreed to by the hospital.  So, the vascular surgeon lobbied the medical staff and administration.  After a while, the numbers were lowered, the vascular surgeon was approved to perform the procedures and some time later, the volume standards were magically raised again to our original amounts.
