We are re-assessing the shift weight we assign to radiologists that work from 10 p.m. to 730 am Monday - Sunday.
Its currently valued at 1.425/each night.   1.0 weight is assigned to all 730a to 5:00pm shifts.     i.e. if a radiologist works a graveyard shift, they are paid 42.5% more than the day shift, and its entirely ED and IP coverage.

It would be helpful to know how other practices have weighted this shift for comparison.

Thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide.

    HI Beth

We are currently at 1.5 for overnights vs. 1.0 for weekday day shifts.  We adjust periodically based on supply and demand.  We were at 1.6 last year, but lowered because we had more people wanting those shifts than available shifts.

We weigh it higher also but do it by hours not value. It has a 1 value for 6pm-1am for 7 hours. Day shifts have a 1 value for 8.5 hours. It can also be done from home unlike most day shifts. That's about a 21% premium for them.

We do a similar thing in the early morning with a 5a-12:30p that has the full 1 value for 7.5 hours (13% premium) and can be done from home. That means we only send to overnight from 1a-5a which has significantly lowered our overnight coverage costs.

We are a hospital based practice with 18 rads covering 2 community hospitals.

Cost per shift, even though hours are different: 1st is 1.0 for at least a 9 hour length day. 2nd is 1.1 for an 8 hour fixed shift. 3rd is 1.15 for a fixed 8 hour shift. We have historically only paid differentials to rads doing the off hour shifts full time.
