For anyone using a nighthawk, and allowing the nighthawk Dr. to do the actual reading of the x-ray exams. Night Hawk would charge for the professional component since they were the one reading the exams, correct? Our Dr's are not wanting to do any over reads of what the Night Hawk Dr's read. So Nighthawk Dr's would get to charge for the professional fee and we would pay the Nighthawks to read also.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Melissa,

The arrangement you describe involves your group taking reassignment from the nighthawk interpreting physicians. See CMS Transmittal 503 in place since 2014, attached.

Medicare suppliers are required to bill the correct MAC for reassigned services when they are paid under the MPFS. The billing entity must submit claims to the MAC that has jurisdiction over the geographic area where the services were rendered.

    Hi Melissa,

This works 1 of 2 ways:

    1.  The nighthawks bill their own PC and the group does NOT pay them.
    2.  The group pays the nighthawks a flat fee and bills the PC to the appropriate MAC.
