Hi there.  We are trying to correct some of our exam times that are scheduled too long or short.  It would be helpful to see industry benchmarks/averages for various exams (outpatient, all modalities).  Do you know of any resources I can look to for this?

    Thanks in advance.

The ACR has standard protocols. Great place to start.

Outpatient exam times should be closely tied to protocol/actual scan times plus a few minutes to get patients in and out of the exam room.  National averages are great, but they don't tell the story of how long your actual exams take, especially true in MRI.  Spending a few hours in each modality to watch patient flow will also help you access time needs.

Techs will tell you they need more time and talk about everything that may possibly go wrong.  The best way to deal with this is facts.  They cant argue the actual observed and protocol times.  Yes patients will move, some will take longer than others, but you will have some go well, no-shows, etc.
