Our Practice operates outpatient diagnostic imaging centers, we wanted know if any imaging centers charge a "no show" fees to the patients? If so, how much do you charge?

Are there any bench marks for no shows, what is the percentage?

How do you bill/charge the patient? How do you document that the patient is aware of the no show fees?

    I appreciate your input.

    Good morning,

Our clients do charge the patient for no-shows. The documentation that the provider will charge them is included on the exam paperwork and on a sign in the lobby.  Each practice comes up with their rate and we bill the patient accordingly.

We do not charge Medicaid patients as it is prohibited to do so on advice from our compliance review team.

How do you validate this debt/charge?
If the patient didn't show up for the service, I assume you have no paperwork signed by the patient consenting to anything with your center.
If the patient disputes the bill or asks for documentation, what do you provide?

There is advice for No Show policy language on various compliant sites that you can post in your practice. Most providers have implemented paperwork to fill out in advance on a portal or website where the announcement is made, and when you verify appointments you have them mention the policy then as well.  If challenged, we provide all evidence that it is posted on the paperwork, in the lobby, and is part of the script with appointment verification. We have not had much backlash honestly, these get paid in most cases.
