    Good afternoon, folks.
Recently, I discussed a scenario with our HR manager. I will continue researching online, but I'm still seeking a good answer. I realized the solution could only be found within the collective minds of this group.
The situation under consideration concerns employees and patients taking photos of their personal imaging data in the system using their cell phones. Although I found a couple of references in the HIPAA guidelines, they do not address our particular scenario.
Has anyone faced a similar issue in the past and found a solution?
I would appreciate your guidance on this. Thank you in advance for your help.

It seems like it should be unnecessary to take pictures since you have a legal obligation to give them their data, including images, upon request.  The challenge is probably that it's hard to know that someone isn't taking a picture of other patient's data, and therefore it potentially creates a perception of possible inappropriate behavior.  I would suggest asking people to request their personal records the same as any other patients, and refrain from taking pictures.  The challenge might be that some radiologists like to take pictures too ...so I would want to get them to comply with the same policy to avoid creating a double standard.
