  • 1.  Night tele-rads and call coverage

    Hello!

    How are folks managing night tele-rads and procedure call coverage?  Do you have a designated team to cover procedure calls, if yes, what's the daily rate?  Please share any ideas that has worked best for your practices.  Few other questions, do you decrease pay for those tele-night rads to cover procedure calls?

    We cover our own nights, so there is always at least one diagnostic rad on duty, almost all work from home.  In addition to the diagnostic rads on duty and the IR on call, we have a diagnostic rad on "backup call" for procedures that wouldn't normally be handled by IR, and also to go onsite in the event of a technology failure that prevents remote reading.  It's rare for someone to have to go in.  We pay about $250 per night for this call.

    We have employed tele-rad between 5 pm and 2 am.  We pay them a per RVU rate. After 2 am we outsource to a third party. There is 1 back-up radiologist each night that covers procedures and tele-rad unexpected downtime. That rotates through the group on a daily basis.

    Hi Krissy -   Our NH section doesnt cover procedures.  The IR group covers all procedures.  They have a 24/7 call arrangement.  Our practice has 38 providers overall, includes 6 IR and 3 NH. ​
