  • 1.  Notifying Referring Doctors that Patient Was Not Imaged

    Posted 07-18-2019 10:43
    Good morning,

Our Imaging centers currently send a fax to the referring doctor when their patient arrives at our center but was not able to be imaged ( due to claustro, billing issue, pain etc).  We send this even if they are rescheduled.  The new RIS system we are moving to does not have this ability built into their system.  We wanted to see if others are doing this or have a better workflow?  Any feedback on how you communicate this with the referring doctor would be helpful.

    Thank you!

My staff FAXes the referring doctor with the reason the patient couldn't be scanned at one of our MRI centers.

Perhaps the patient was too sick or claustrophobic.

We wish to show compassion to all our patients and to accomplish this goal to the greatest extent this communication is a must.

We also FAX the referring doctor if the patient is a no-show (with reminders prior, of course) to let the referring physician know and perhaps the physician's staff can encourage the patient to make their next appointment.

We've found this to be a best-practice and it works.

    It's all about patient care.
