Can a Hospital owned Freestanding Emergency Department operate as an Outpatient Imaging Center concurrently to increase utilization of their imaging equipment [CT/US/Xray]?

    Thanks for your time.

Jeff – Interesting question. I would assume that all services in an outpatient department of the hospital free standing or otherwise could be used for outpatient services. So I would say yes, but my knowledge of the requirements for certification of a freestanding ED as an outpatient department of a hospital is limited. So unless there are restrictions within that Freestanding ED designation, why wouldn't the imaging services be considered an extension of all imaging services provided by the hospital and thus allowed to be scheduled in the same manner as all other imaging services?

Maybe others with more experience in the Freestanding ED sector can chime is on the requirements they must adhere to in order to be so classified.....
