  • 1.  Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty same day

    Our IR doctor performed a kyphoplasty (T8) and vertebroplasty (T9) in the same session. Maybe I'm overthinking this but I can't quite figure out how this should be billed. Each add on code in the CPT book only states "each additional ---- vertebral body (list separately in addition to code for primary procedure) I haven't found anything to guide me on how to bill if both are done at the same time....
    Please help.

    Hello,

     

    This is from Dr. Z's 2019 IR coding book.

     

    If vertebroplasty is performed at one level, and kyphoplasty is performed at a separate level (uncommon), use "initial" vertebroplasty and "initial" kyphoplasty codes.
