  • 1.  Hospital Contract

Our group is looking at possibly redesigning how our contract with the hospital is written and I am curious if others have done something similar. Any insight, advice or warnings are welcomed!

Historically our contract has included a stipend, that is evaluated every 3 years based on group productivity which is determined by RVUs compared to other groups. This info is sent to Sullivan Cotter for their independent analysis. Our group has their own billing department and bills for professional fees in addition to the stipend provided by the hospital.

This year there is talk of reducing the stipend despite the increase in annual RVUs and the group being rated as highly productive. The new proposed contract verbiage is based on hours worked rather than RVUs which we feel is a mistake. The hospital has also broached the topic of billing Globally. If this were to happen I assume we would then be paid on an RVU basis? This could potentially simplify things and reduce overhead to the group.  Are there groups that have opted to be paid by RVU rather than billing for their own services that could share their experience with me? I am curious what the fee schedule for RVUs would be based on? Has this created problems you didn't foresee, if so what would you do differently?
