  • 1.  vertebroplasty in the office setting

    Hello!

Our group is looking at possibly performing vertebroplasy and kyphoplasty in the office setting.  We have an outpatient IR suite that we use  for vascular and spine work  and are considering expanding into the above procedures but have reservations because of the need for sedation and how to appropriately bill these procedures.  Do any of you perform vertebroplasty in the office setting and if so could you explain your set up in regards to anesthesia services?  Thanks for any feedback available.

First, you will want to check your state laws, if you haven't already done so.  Some states have a law (advocated by anesthesiologists) that requires additional accreditation if you use moderate sedation.

We perform Vertebral Augmentation in our office setting, which has been accredited as an office-based surgery center (this is a requirement in California in order to provide any anesthesia and/or moderate sedation services). This is the only procedure we currently perform using moderate sedation (which is administered by nursing staff). Feel free to call me if you would like any additional information.
