  • 1.  Benchmark for PreAuthorizations

    Looking for benchmark info for Preauthorizations.  As a free standing facility we have an average of 40+ CT/MRI added daily for our 4 facilities along with already scheduled patients.  We have 5 FT and 1 PT employee doing the authorizations and trying to find out of the amount they are doing daily is average.   Can anyone share the average amount an individual is authorizing per day?

    We have one location and 1 full time person doing MRI authorizations. She does 9-11 per day.

    Lisa -  My auth manager just looked at our values, and we are running about 14/day per auth team member.   This is using referral work queues through EPIC.  Payer mix will also influence these values as some payers require phone calls and are a much more protracted review and approval process.  We are also finding it takes more work to determine if the referral meets the site of service requirements (Amerigroup) so those have to go to coding department review.

    How many MRI's do you all average a day and in reference to your number of associates performing do they only do MRI or both MRI and CT?

    Lisa – 103 cases/day spanning MR/CT/PET.  Happy to discuss offline.  As you know, one case may require multiple points of contact between payer, ordering provider, imaging center, etc.  The team is able to use inbasket tools in EPIC that support this process, as well as the referral work queues.
