With the exception of a small number of codes where we have contracts paying a percentage of billed charges, we set fees at a small markup over the best contracted rate. That way, self pay patients don't have to pay significantly more than insured patients (and they tend to pay better).
For the exceptions, we set the fee so that the percentage of billed charge payment per RVU will be in line with other codes.

What formula are you using to set practice global fee schedules? In the past we have used a percentage of Medicare to set the groups base fee schedule, such as 2.5 times medicare fee schedule. However with the yearly cuts to the medicare fee schedule, wage increases and supply costs this has been an issue. Can anyone share what you use to set your fee practice fee schedules?
