Hello Linda,
With the short supply of Rads today (now reportedly 11,000 unfilled radiology and teleradiology positions in the US.) A refreshing solution working for some is to utilize the teleradiology partnership where they have the capacity. For example, some teleradiology companies can bring on new customers, providing daytime coverage and purposefully not expanding their deep nights due to the limited supply, physician burn-out, and compensation package demand for night-readers. For some groups and hospital-based rads, this alternative provides a quality-of-life balance for radiologists. Why pay for the high cost of a service model that can't perform consistently? The choice for those with the FTE is to cover your nights, or at minimum, a large portion of them during this season. Unfortunately, for most, this is a new norm. They are keeping the revenue in the group, adding it back to its bottom line. Additionally, with outpatient imaging and ED supported by a trusted teleradiology partner during the day, some groups can spread their FTE and perhaps even attend their kid's soccer games. Again, this is a suggestion that may work for some.

Subject: Suggestions for dealing with excessive delays by overnight Teleradiology companies
Hello Forum.
We all know that teleradiology companies have struggled over the past year with staffing shortage and turnaround times. Lately, our provider has had longer delays than we can bear. We are a hospital based group covering 1 ER during the overnight hours. Delays have been so excessive that our on call rads have started getting calls to read cases in the middle of the night. We are small and cannot handle the overnight disruptions. It takes time to make a switch to a new company so in the meantime, we are looking for ways to compensate our staff for taking overnight call and for when they actually get called. We have some ideas but wondered if anyone has successfully dealt with this issue within their own practice. If you have a compensation plan or suggestion you would be willing to share, we would appreciate it.
Thank you very much!
