We had a patient present for a scheduled exam with their minor child in tow. This child was young enough to need supervision while mom was getting her exam. With staffing issues, some due to Covid-19, we were unable to provide a staff member to supervise the child and the exam was cancelled. Patient was very angry that we could not provide the child care supervision during her visit. My questions:
- How does your facility/dept. handle this issue without alienating the patient?
- Does your facility have a written policy for this situation?
- Is there any legal liability when having our staff supervise a child for a patient who is behind closed doors getting an exam?
Thanks for your feedback!
