We have been contacted recently by two of our clients that are concerned about electronic orders for an IDTF service. One of the entities does not have any kind of verification that is it approved/reviewed/accepted by a physician. As we understand the ACR guidance, IDTF order requirements are the most stringent vs the hospital or physician owned setting. But, regardless of the setting the referring MD is responsible for the medical necessity of the test. So, we are insistent that we need the modality with left, right or bilateral, the reason for the test (signs/symptoms), and who verified it (MD). However, we have a military base telling us their authorization has all that we need and can act as the order, and we have an orthopedic group sending us an order which basically has no symptoms and no electronic signature. How are others compliantly accepting electronic orders in an IDTF? Are their some vendors that help manage this?
