Hello everyone,
I take care of the billing for a radiology group in Texas, which has asked for advice from other radiologists and their billing companies for information on a MRI prostate examination.
The local urologists in the area have asked if the radiologists / hospital can start offering this type of imaging service.
They have been told this requires proper software to perform the exam, additional tech training, as well as additional CME course(s) for the radiologists to take to reinforce their training skills.
I spoke to our coders from different areas around the country and so far none of the groups we are associated with do this type of procedure.
However, they did say that the CPT codes are the MRI codes for the Prostate which are 72195, 72196 and 72197. The problem is these are also for the MRI of the Pelvis codes, and are fairly certain that the diagnosis would be one of the following N40.0, N40.2, N41.2 OR C61.
Please send any information/data you might have to me so I can pass on to the radiologists.
Thank you so much,
Natalie Miller
