Hi Melissa
If I'm interpreting your question correctly, I think the vast majority of private hospital based groups do their own billing. Stipends are much less common than they once were, but there are still a significant number, especially when payor mix or call obligations are economically challenging.
It's not unheard of for hospitals to bill and pay the radiology group...I believe it was actually quite common in the early days of the specialty. However, I think it's fairly uncommon now because radiologists generally don't want to give a cut of the professional fee to the hospital and radiologists are likely to be much more interested in negotiating professional fees with payors than a hospital.
This might make for an interesting RBMA survey.

Subject: Contracting with Hospitial
Good Afternoon,
I was wanting to get some feed back on how common is it for a private radiology group to contract with a hospital for services, and still do their own billing. All the while receiving a stipend from the hospital for their services? Alternatively, how common is it for a radiology group to contract with a hospital and have the hospital do their billing and then the hospital would compensate the radiology group?
Thank you
