Hello Lisa,
Your question is a popular one these days. As you're likely familiar, most groups have been struggling with retaining/recruiting night, weekend, and holiday coverage, regardless of the model (hospital-employed, independent groups, and the teleradiology industry). Over the past 4-5 years, unless one of the night-coverage providers lost a large contract, it was nearly impossible to source a reliable provider with the capacity to take on new business, especially one with consistent, on-time, high-quality, and Final reports.
If your inquiry relates to incentive compensation of an independent group's physicians or comparing a recent quote from a teleradiology service provider for covering nights, weekends, and holidays, the supply and demand aren't favoring either. Many of us remember the rates for nights and locums coverage at 1/3-1/2 what they are today. Night coverage providers often bill multiples of 1.5-3 times what it used to cost for after-hours weekends and holidays.
Full disclosure: We do not compete in the after-hours teleradiology sector at National Radiology Solutions (NRAD Solutions). NRAD's sweet spot is helping expand our client's FTE strength. Providing coverage is purposefully daytime outpatient imaging.
Feel free to call, text, or email if you'd care to discuss this further.
All the best,
Darrin

Subject: Compensation premium or multiplier for after-hours shifts
What type of premiums are paid for overnight work covering weekdays and weekends? For example is an overnight shift worth double a day shift or a third more. I am not requesting the specific dollar amounts.
